Art with Ms. Kalin

We had a blast in July creating our own light houses and Island maps. We also explored some Mesoamerican themes, like cacti, desert life, and the striking patterns and architecture from the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures! The 4’s even created their own temple structures in a collective project. We created exploding volcanoes, and our 2’s got to learn all about texture in painting when we painted the three different types of rocks! As always our Infants got messy and made some beautiful art with their hands. We ended July in an ambitious attempt to make our own mosaics in the 3’s and 2’s. Some School Agers chose to participate in the Project of the Week, while others made some pretty cool capes, sensory toys, and some did both! At this age I like to leave the limits up to their imagination as much as possible, and it makes for some pretty great moments. I’m endlessly impressed with their skill and creativity.

Waiting in the wings, we have some eclectic plans for August, Including puppets, a Renaissance Faire themed week, some way cool snail art, and of course we will end our August with a “Back To School” theme! A Note for parents in the 4’s: Please have your child bring an empty paper towel sized roll to school for a special project. I will be collecting them now until August 6th :]  Thank you for sharing your amazing little artists with me!
